The External Engagement and Communications group is looking for an Executive Communications Lead to help share progress toward INL's vision of changing the world's energy future and securing our nation's critical infrastructure. And we're surrounded by some of the West's most iconic mountains, rivers and national parks (Yellowstone, Grand Teton)!

You will work a 9x80 schedule working on-site in our Research & Educational Campus offices in Idaho Falls with every other Friday off!

The Executive Communications lead supports the needs of the laboratory director and deputy laboratory directors. The lead will work alongside a team of professional staff members, helping to prioritize communications activities.

You will report to the Communications Director.

Responsibilities:

You will also advise leadership on strategies and solutions for achieving the organization's outreach goals. Such work will involve building networks and relationships outside INL and coordinating activities of other INL personnel.

You will support the functional areas of internal and external communications; leadership communications strategy and outreach development; and performance measurement and reporting. The lead will directly support the Communications director and laboratory leadership in meeting communication commitments. The individual will also work closely with the Communications leadership team to coordinate staff efforts in support of the lab's mission.

The Executive Communications lead will:

  • Work with the Executive Communications support team to coordinate the communications needs for the laboratory director.
  • Create and post engaging content for the laboratory director's social media feed.
  • Lead the executive communications support team.
  • Provide direction and consistency for laboratory director office communications including articles, talking points, letters of recommendation, presentations and other communications products.
  • Lead the preparation of internal and external presentations for the laboratory director and deputy laboratory directors.
  • Coordinate with laboratory director staff and the Communications directorate to evaluate and recommend front office speaking requests.
  • Proactively identify conferences, speaking engagements and media opportunities for the laboratory director or deputy lab directors.
  • Provide talking point packages to the Senior Leadership Team for all major decisions impacting the workforce, and for major external announcements or newsworthy events to ensure all leadership is coordinated and in sync.
  • Coordinate with Communications director on lab wide communications strategy.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

PR0400-Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English or marketing and 8 years of experience or advanced degree and 6 years of experience. (PR004)

PR0500-Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English or marketing and 12 years of experience or advanced degree and 8 years of experience.

  • Requires prior communications experience with a strong focus on writing.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven experience leading communications professionals.
  • Organizational and task management skills and the ability to manage complex workflow seamlessly and with attention to detail.
  • Proven success contributing to a strategic communications function for a large, complex organization.
  • Track record of demonstrating INL's values of excellence, inclusivity, integrity, teamwork, ownership and safety.
  • Experience supporting executive (C suite) communications.

Job Information:

Salary PR0400 Grade 210 - ($95,928 - $158,232)

Salary PR0500 Grade 220 - ($110,316 - $181,956)
