Corporate Controller - Mahwah NJ

To drive continued success in this exciting Medical Device field, we are seeking a Corporate Controller to join our winning team.

Job Summary:

Essential Functions:

  1. General Accounting Operations:
    1. Lead/manage/supervise the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close to ensure accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and to meet HQ dictated closing deadlines
    2. Review and approve all journal entries
    3. Review and approve all account reconciliations
    4. Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures, including key technical accounting interpretation, policies and execution of new accounting standards

2. Tax Operations:

  1. Lead and manage the tax department and outside tax consultants to ensure compliance with all state, federal and local tax regulations, including tax returns, tax provision, transfer pricing and R&D credits
  2. Research and implement tax planning opportunities to achieve tax efficiency

3. Credit and Accounts Receivable:

  1. Participate in establishing and approving customer credit lines
  2. Manage the timely collection of customers' accounts
  3. Provide leadership, process and close team management to meet AR goals, including DSO, overdue accounts, etc

4. Inventory, AP and Field Demo Inventory Management:

  1. Directly lead the accounting team and partner with the Operations and Purchasing team to ensure the company's inventory targets are met
  2. Ensure an efficient AP operation, including management of third-party and intercompany payables
  3. Directly lead and control the process for field inventory for customer demonstration purposes (Demo Inventory)

5. Internal Controls (SOX):

  1. Oversee the company's SOX compliance as the SOX's Coordinator
  2. Improve and implement effective and efficient internal controls within the finance organization
  3. Coordinate the testing of internal controls with other departments, HQ internal auditors, and external auditors
  4. Timely report control deficiencies to management for ratification

6. Audits

  1. Plan, manage, and coordinate the periodic financial statement audits, SOX audits, and tax audits

7. Process and SAP system Improvement:

  1. Develop and maintain written policies and procedures in all responsibility areas
  1. Drive process improvement and automation to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of accounting operations
  2. Support other departments in their process improvement projects
  3. Partner with IT and other departments to unlock the true potential of SAP ERP through continuous improvement and automation

8. Budgeting, Forecasting, and Sales Reporting Support:

  1. Support FP&A and other departments with annual budgeting and periodic forecasts
  2. Support sales reporting and other operational reporting with system/tools and improvements

9. Team Leadership and Development

  1. Lead and mentor the accounting team to foster a culture of teamwork, personal accountability, high performance and continuous learning
  2. Identify and develop talent, succession planning, and skills/capability development

  1. Other projects and responsibilities as may be assigned by management

Decision-Making Authority:

  • Approve/reject departmental budgets
  • Approve/reject purchase requisitions (PRs)
  • Approve/reject capital appropriations requests (CARs)
  • Approve Accounting Processes and workflow methods

Position Specifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (CPA or Master's degree strongly preferred)
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting roles, with at least 5 years in a managerial capacity. Current experience as Controller/Assistant Controller and Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Thorough understanding of US GAAP and SOX controls. Experience with IFRS a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret and present complex financial data to all levels of management
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels across the company
  • Proven track record of driving process improvements and implementing best practices to optimize accounting operations
  • Proficiency in top accounting software and ERP systems; experience with SAP preferred
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a hands-on/roll-up-the- sleeves/ can-do attitude and manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Inquisitive and continuous learner mindset, with a willingness to understand the overall business (not just accounting) and adapt to evolving business needs and industry changes.
