The MongoDB Documentation team is a diverse and highly technical group of engineers who develop and maintain the documentation for the MongoDB product family. Our mission is to help developers and administrators successfully use MongoDB products by providing outstanding documentation. The MongoDB Documentation team is tightly integrated with the Product and Engineering organizations and works alongside the teams responsible for each product.

The MongoDB documentation covers complex technical topics and building engineer-focused content on:

  • Database fundamentals
  • Distributed systems in the cloud
  • Relevance-based and semantic search
  • Backup and restoration
  • Creating and modifying database deployments
  • Enterprise-grade security
  • Performance
  • Managing high availability and scalability in MongoDB clusters
  • Code samples in popular languages (Node.js, Python, Java, Go, and more)

As a Translation Quality Analyst, you will use your Japanese fluency, linguistic expertise, and technical skills to review, validate, and if necessary correct deeply technical product manuals. In this unique and cross-functional position, you'll have the opportunity to interface with technical writers, linguists, engineers, product managers, and technical services to deliver excellent documentation in a newly offered language.

Your work will empower a global community of millions of engineers ranging from experienced MongoDB users to those new to MongoDB.

This role can be based out of our New York City office or remotely in the United States.

Candidate Profile

Candidates must have 3+ years of combined experience across any of the following roles: translator, technical writer, developer advocate, software engineer, and/or product management. Beyond industry experience, we are looking for someone who is:

  1. Experienced translating or authoring highly technical technical content into Japanese
  2. A critical reader and a proficient writer
  3. Comfortable reading code to understand existing documentation, especially code written in Java, JavaScript, or Go
  4. Admirable cross-functional collaboration skills with a track record of working across multiple organizations
  5. Resourceful and able to work through complex or time-sensitive challenges
  6. Experienced reviewing and updating translated content using Computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools
Position Expectations
  • Assess quality and technical accuracy of translated documentation pages from a third-party vendor
  • Translate content and make corrections where required
  • Define and manage a glossary used for translations
  • Collaborate with the documentation team when edits to the source material are required
  • Report on project status to the Documentation leadership team
Nice to Have
  • Technical writing experience in a "Docs as Code" environment
  • Ability to code and perform basic technical and programming tasks
Success Measures
  • You've reviewed at least the top 250 documentation pages and made any necessary corrections to ensure high quality and accuracy
  • You contribute to and maintain the glossary with common MongoDB terminology
  • You are comfortable reaching out to technical writers, linguists, and SMEs on a regular basis

Contract Duration: Two months

Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB's total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, access to transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings. Please note, the base salary range listed below and the benefits in this paragraph are only applicable to U.S.-based candidates.

MongoDB's base salary range for this role in the U.S. is:
$81,000$160,000 USD
