Job Description
Responsible for implementing marketing and business development strategies to meet the goals of the firm offices outside of the mid-Atlantic and the practices and attorneys within. The incumbent is responsible for creating and maintaining best practices to enhance the value of the Marketing team to the firm and to enhance Venable's position in several of its newer markets. Marketing and Business Development Support: * Working with Regional Managers, assist with implementation and management of short- and long-term business development and marketing initiatives. Assist with planning, implementing and managing new business or cross-marketing initiatives. Develop and manage projects in support of initiatives. Track activity of initiatives and key metrics. Use CRM for same. * Conduct qualitative business research and review/summarize results with Marketing Intelligence team, supervisor, and attorneys. Make recommendations regarding business development opportunities. * Identify, evaluate and present opportunities for branding and profile-raising of the attorneys in the regional offices. This may include sponsorships, conferences, directory rankings and other awards, memberships, and public relations opportunities. * Liaise with office personnel to implement events and initiatives. * Assist with onboarding of lateral attorneys of all levels Collateral Materials and eMarketing Technologies: * Develop content for event and non-event related marketing materials, brochures, e-mail and other similar formats. Manage related production and distribution. Coach attorneys on best practices for marketing content. Coordinate with marketing communications team. Ensure compliance with firm policies and procedures. * Maintain marketing mailing lists for individuals and practice groups. Manage flow of information to marketing technology team members. * Review and edit email marketing content, ensure compliance with firm policies and standards; manage the distribution of content. Provide analysis on readership, lead generation and best practices. * Maintain and update practice group descriptions as needed. Liaise with content team to draft and update biographies for attorneys for print media and firm website; make recommendations on what makes a good biography. * Conduct competitive intelligence research and analyze research to establish message and positioning of web content for regional offices. Client Events/Tradeshows/Speaking Engagements: * Help manage and ensure timely and effective execution of all marketing events, internal and external. Identify and communicate event strategy and goals to events team. Liaise with events and communications team on logistics and materials requirements. Manage the development and distribution of related promotional materials. * Work with attorneys, regional manager, and business development team to develop ideas for events that are in line with practice group or regional office strategy. * Identify and secure external conference speaking opportunities for attorneys by monitoring event calendars, trade and legal publications, competitor websites and business news. * Attend events and coordinate set-up and tear down of booth/materials as needed. * Develop concepts and key messages for marketing materials. Ensure materials are designed, proofed and printed in cost efficient manner while maintaining quality standards. * Develop division advertisements. Research print and online division advertising opportunities. Work with Marketing Communications Manager to coordinate and maintain division advertising media schedule. Ensure all free and paid advertising is tracked for division. * Attend events as required. Manage onsite registration of firm-sponsored events. Compile event follow-up report and develop post-event follow-up plan for attorneys. Track return on investment (ROI) and manage follow up actions, including lead generation, RSVPs, survey feedback, etc. Prepare pre- and post-event reports. Proposal Writing: * Develop practice group or office-specific pitch materials and responses to RFPs. Ensure all proposals and content for use with future proposals are tracked in proposal library and wins are posted to firm's intranet, including the practice group pages. Work with attorneys and content team to develop new content as needed. General: * As needed, work with Marketing Communications team to track and/or obtain division's competitor collateral, web and advertising positioning and creative direction. * Prepare various marketing reports; maintain spreadsheets for tracking and management purposes; maintain project lists and event/project plans. Ensure information is current. For all marketing expenses, ensure compliance with budget policies and procedures. * Use InterAction client relationship management tool (CRM) to track business development activities. * Work with business development teams to manage activities of attorneys, including in development of business plans and assist with tracking and follow-up. Education Requirements * Bachelor's degree in related field or education/experience equivalent. Skills & Technical Requirements * Minimum of three years related experience. * Strong written and oral communication skills. * Strong attention to detail. * Intermediate to advanced skills with databases and PC applications, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook required. Experience working within Interaction or similar CRM strong preferred. * Working knowledge of website database/technology, intranet database/technology and mass e-mail distribution software. * General understanding of marketing concepts and principles, including the ability to develop, implement and track results of attorney and short/long-term business. development plans and manage related marketing and business development initiatives. * Ability to plan, implement, manage and track results of new business or marketing initiative. * Must possess skills to manage large internal and external events from developing theme to post-event analysis. * Must be able to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects/initiatives simultaneously while meeting deadlines and business objectives. * Ability to estimate production times and to oversee production of client/firm mailings, proposals and other marketing materials. * Ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels of the organization. * Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusion. Physical Requirements * Work is mainly sedentary. * Work at marketing events may require prolonged standing. Other Requirements * Requires travel to various marketing/firm events/meetings.
